Forex lot size calculator

The right lot size makes your stop-loss cost only the share of your account you decided on, whatever the currency pair.

In micro lots (0.01)

How it works

Lots = amount at risk ÷ (stop-loss in pips × pip value per lot). One standard lot is 100,000 units of the base currency. The default pip value of 10 fits pairs quoted in USD with a USD account, such as EUR/USD; for other pairs use the pip value calculator.

Worked example

Account 2,000, risk 1% = 20. Stop-loss 25 pips, pip value 10. Lots = 20 ÷ (25 × 10) = 0.08 lots, or 8,000 units.

Things to watch

  • Brokers set a minimum lot and a lot step. Round down, never up.
  • Spread adds a cost that this calculation does not include.
  • An account in rupiah needs the pip value in rupiah. The pip value calculator can convert it.
