How it works
Price per gram (USD) = price per ounce ÷ 31.1034768, times purity and (1 + premium). Price per gram in your currency = that × the exchange rate. One troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams; a tola is about 11.6638 grams and a Thai baht weight is 15.244 grams.
Worked example
Gold at 2,000 USD per ounce (an example price, not today’s), 24K: 2,000 ÷ 31.1035 ≈ 64.30 USD per gram. At an example rate of 1 USD = 0.92 EUR, that is about 59.16 EUR per gram. In rupiah, at 1 USD = 16,000 IDR, it is about 1,028,800 IDR per gram.
Things to watch
- Jewellers and bullion dealers add their own margin, tax and buy-back spread, so shop prices differ from this figure based on the world price.
